The sun was high into the sky. It had reached the top of the sky which meant that it was the afternoon... and also very hot. The grass on the ground itself seemed to bake. Hardly any pokemon were out unless they absolutely had to be. And those that were out mostly just moped around in hardly any mood to move. Today was obviously a day to be sitting down and resting yourself. However, not everyone had that privilege...
Tayonis was one who didn't have the privilege. She was walking down the grass trail of Route 44. Her feet seemed to fall heavier and heavier on the ground with each step she took, and she had even tied her sky-blue T-shirt with its pink and black striped star in the middle so that her light brown stomach showed. She wasn't really one for this style but it was so hot that she was driven to it.
Sweat dripped down her forehead and she stopped to wipe it off. An eevee that had been walking behind her nearly ran into her heels. The small pokemon was so hot beneath its fur that it had hardly been paying attention to its surroundings let-alone her trainer. However, now she looked up and silently questioned Tayonis with its odd brown eyes. Why had they stopped? They may as well keep going since the heat showed no chance of letting up and there was no breeze to bring cool comfort. However, Tayonis seemed to be gazing off into the distance showing no chance of moving forward... Sepia would take this as a chance to sit and rest a little. However, before the little pokemon could even get ready to but her rear on the ground her trainer set off again. Sighing dejectedly, she loyally followed.
What made Tayonis move again was a tree she could see that wasn't too far away. They could sit under it and rest until the sun lowered and the temperature along with it. This prospect put some more pep in her step and she quickly arrived at the tree. With a happy sigh she sat with her back against it, her whole body in the glorious shade it cast. She closed her eyes and rested. Sepia took a hint from her trainer and laid down on her side beside her in the shade. Soon, both trainer and pokemon were asleep and oblivious to their surroundings...

By this point in the day, Snow was practically about to collapse. He'd grown up in a cold region that always had snow, and here he was in this sweltering heat. Cynder seemed to be doing just fine, but, then again, she was a fire-type. There really wasn't much of a surprise there. Deciding a break would be best for him, he set down his heavy bag and dug out his camera, fitting the telephoto lens on it.
Cynder went scampering off as he knelt in the grass, slinging the strap around his neck and holding the camera with ever-so-steady hands, snapping shot after shot of his cyndaquil, then zooming to take a peek at farther away. The zoom acted like binoculars, and he found himself spying in on a girl about his age. His finger had a mind of its own, snapping a couple shots of her and her eevee before letting his neck hold the weight of his camera, and slinging the bag back over his shoulder, whistling a soft tune to call Cynder back.
He set off in the direction of the girl, even though he wasn't much of a people person. He'd spent days out here on his own, except for the pokemon by his side, taking pictures and he could do with at least a 'hello'. She looked about his height, as well, which would be good for him. He wouldn't feel quite so small.
When he reached the general area, he stopped, Cynder stopping beside him and tipping her head to the side slightly, curious but not as much as to go forward and sniff the trainer and her eevee.
Mind... if I share the shade?
He murmured softly, voice hardly cutting into thick, humid air at all, but managing to be heard, just barely. He was hesitant, very much so, and it was rather obvious. But, he had good reason. Good reason he preferred not to let his mind dwell on. He was away from the bullies now.

"Mind... if I share the shade?"
Tayonis thought she heard a voice split through the air and into her light sleep. She couldn't be sure... It seemed very faint and far away. She started to ignore it when something brushed against her arm. She opened an eye and saw Sepia. "We have company... The pokemon said. Tayonis looked confused for a second until she saw a cyndaquil and when she looked up she saw its trainer. He looked to be the same age as her... maybe a little older. She noticed that he was rather small probably around her height. Hmm, quite nice. It took her a moment to realize however, that the voice that had slightly aroused her was his.
Looking embarrassed, she said, "I don't mind at all. Come come, sit sit." She scooted over and picked up Sepia to give the boy some room then patted the spot beside her. She wondered where the small boy had come from. She hadn't seen him before she had decided to nap and she knew Sepia hadn't either or she would have said something. Regardless, he was here now and she may as well make the most of his company... At least she would someone to talk to now. It would be awesome!
Tayonis started to pet her small pokemon. The Eevee in her lap smiled contentedly and kept its eyes on the other two that had just arrived. "So, what brings you here? It's a really hot day to be out, y'know. May mess around and die of heat stroke out here. Tayonis giggled. "Just kiddin', my name's Tayonis and this is Sepia. Who are you guys?" She looking at the boy as she blinked her eyes.

He swung his bag off and set it down, crumpling under the tree into a pile of cream and white, what with his clothes and hair being rather near the same color. He crunched his knees up to his chest, setting the valuable camera on top of them carefully until Cynder scrambled up and into the wedge created by his thighs and chest. He smiled as she rested her head on top of the camera.
He turned his head toward her, quiet as she talked and even for a few moments after. It wasn't that he really had to think about his answer at all. He didn't. He just wasn't one to really talk to many people, and to have someone who actually seemed to want to talk to him was a completely foreign experience.
Oh, uh, Rylee Reagan, and this is Cynder... I was just out taking some pictures.

Tayonis looked down Cynder as she rested her head on the camera. How cute was that? She wondered if Sepia would ever do that if she had a camera... maybe... maybe she should buy a camera and- Wait! Stop letting your mind wander, Tay! You're talking to someone here. The blinked rapidly as her mind came back to the present.
"Oh, uh, Rylee Reagan, and this is Cynder... I was just out taking some pictures." Sepia perked up her ears as she listened to the conversation. She hardly ever got to take those. She started to say something when her trainer spoke first. She flicked her tail, slightly irritated."Well, it's nice to meet you both." The fifteen year old shifted her gaze to the grass in front of them. She fancied that she could see the heat baking it... quite a funny thought.
Tayonis put her arms behind her head as she leaned back against the tree. For the first sentence he had spoke she could kind of tell that Rylee was the shy, timid type. It was written all over him. She kinda felt bad for him... if you were shy how could you talk to anybody? It seemed a fate worse than death! ...Well, maybe not death... but... you know what I mean.
The pokemon took Tayonis' pause in conversation to ask the boy a question. "Um, Rylee, what exactly were you out taking pictures of? Just anything you came across? She asked lifting her odd brown eyes up to him expectantly. Her fluffy tail flicked lazily back and forth... much to Tayonis' disdain. Since it was flicking right under her nose. She grabbed it and held it still. "Would you stop doin' that, Sep? And don't be rude askin' random questions. If he wanted us to know what he was takin' pictures of he would've told us." Sepia rolled her eyes at her trainer's comment and still looked up at Rylee expectantly.
Tayonis knew that was the polite thing to say although she hoped he wouldn't mind answering her pokemon's question. What did he take pictures of? She had never met a photographer before.

He turned his attention back to his camera, fiddling with the settings rather pointlessly. It was something to do. Annoyed with the moving headrest, Cynder decided to curl up in a ball instead, effectively getting herself out of the way so he could fiddle and actually see what he was doing.
He hardly had time to catch the question before Tayonis was scolding the eevee. He couldn't help but smile, a small little quirk of his lips that lit up his eyes more than could have been expected. He bit his lip in concentration as he finished his fiddling and quickly raised the camera, snapping the photo of the girl and her pokemon without hardly having to look through the eyepiece.
Yup. That's exactly what I do. There's beauty in everything, if you bother to look.
His reply was quiet, perhaps, but there was a definite passion behind his words, an almost child-like sense of wonder. He slipped the neckstrap over his head, flicking the camera to playback and tipping it so she could see the result; A closely cropped photo, containing very little background and a perfectly clear, crisp recreation of Tayonis and Sepia.
I've been told I'm good at it. Opinions?
His smile grew to a little grin, his eyes sparkling. He was shy, yes, but as soon as someone showed the slightest bit of interest in something he cared about, he jumped right in, head first, diving into a somewhat more conversational mood without even realizing it himself.

Well well well, Sepia must have found something Rylee liked talking about since he was getting more talkative by the minute. Tayonis was a little surprised when he snapped a picture seemingly without having to look. She leaned forward to get a better look when he tilted the camera towards her. Sepia reached her paws up to her trainer's arm so she could see better...
Needless to say, the picture was wonderful. You could barely see any of the background and she and her pokemon were perfectly aligned in the picture. "Wow... you've been told you're good at it? Well whoever said that lied..." Tayonis leaned back with a mock severe look. She tried to hold it but it didn't work so she ended up laughing. "You're great at it! I've never seen pictures look so good before. Did someone teach you how to do that or did you just pick it up on your own?" Her laugh had turned into a huge grin. Anyone who could take pictures this good was alright in her book then again... she sorta liked everyone she met. It was the downside of being so nice and talkative and caring and... wait, how was that a downside? Shouldn't it be an upside? Since, some people were- there she went wandering away with her thoughts again... she really needed to learn how to control that.
Sepia climbed out of Tayonis' lap and walked over to Cynder. She laid down beside the curled up pokemon and looked up at Rylee again. "How long have you been taking picures?" Her fluffy tail wagged brushing against the cyndaquil this time instead of Tayonis. Much to the girl's relief.

His face had fallen for a moment, having not been looking at her face at all. It didn't last particularly long as she quickly bounced back to compliment him and his grin came back. He shifted, one leg falling down to the ground and accidentally tipping Cynder off, having forgotten her for a moment. The little fire pokemon ended up tumbling down to come to a stop as she hit Sepia's side with not so much as a sound. The flames sprout out of her back for a moment, aimed towards her trainer, as a silent scolding before she curled up again.
Just sorta picked it up. It was... a bit of a rough patch in my life. But it helped. It's been about a year and a half since I started, but the first half a year was with those disposable cameras.
He replied, deciding to let his other leg fall as well so he was sitting cross-legged. He dragged his bag over to his side, having turned to face her, and rummaged in it for a moment, setting the camera delicately in his lap. He pulled out a small photo printer, slipping the memory card out of his camera moments after and sticking it in the printer. A few clicks of buttons and the image he'd just captured was coming out. Personally, he preferred bigger print than the 4x6 images this printer spat out, at least for most images. But this wasn't most images; He wasn't selling this one for money. When it was finished, he held it out to her.
Keep it. Just, be careful. The ink's still drying. Don't wanna smudge it.

Tayonis watch with amusement as the cyndaquil tumbled off of Rylee and landed by Sepia. The eevee looked slightly alarmed as the fire rose out of Cynder's back but since it didn't touch her she calmed down. "A year and a half? No wonder you're so good at it. I bet you've had lots of practice." Tayonis was slightly amazed. How could anyone focus on photography for that long? It seemed to her like it would be extremely difficult to stay with that until you were exceedingly good at it. When he mentioned working with the disposable cameras she shrugged and said, "Well, y'gotta start somewhere."
When Rylee rummaged in his bag Tayonis sat up and watched curiously. She wondered what he was getting out of the bag? What he pulled out surprised her. It was a small photo printer. Who carried those around? Real photographers do... A voice in the back of her mind answered.
Tayonis turned towards the boy and watched rather quietly as he put the card from his camera into the printer and then started clicking buttons on the printer. When the image came out she was going to ask if she could see it when Rylee spoke first.
"Keep it. Just, be careful. The ink's still drying. Don't wanna smudge it. Tayonis took the picture carefully and looked at it. She didn't have any pictures of herself save for the ones at her mom's house... but those were miles away. She was happy that she would have her own to keep now. However, she still couldn't wait until she could show her mom and tell her about the boy who was a master photographer.
After she was finished admiring it the girl sat it beside her carefully. After she did so, Sepia stood and went over to look at it. She was careful to keep her paws from touching it. Satisfied that it was indeed the picture she had ever seen she went back and laid beside Cynder again. [/blockquote]

He'd been busy packing the printer away again while she'd admired the photo, making sure to put the memory card back in the camera before turning it off and packing it too. He slipped it in amidst a sweater and a t-shirt, carefully using those to pack it it in such a way it would be padded from any fall his bag might take. Done with that, he clipped his bag shut again, pulling out his water bottle and taking a sip. The ice he'd put in it earlier had already melted, though the water was still pretty cold and refreshing for now.
He found he was surprisingly relaxed around her. He chalked it up to the fact that she was the first person who wasn't at least ten years older who hadn't beat him up or berated him with name calling and the like. It was a nice change, and reassured him that Johto had definitely been the right choice to head to after leaving home. It was a little saddening, though, to think about the snow and lovely Lake Acuity back where he came from, so he tried to avoid it. No point getting homesick.
You never said what you were dong out here?
He mentioned this fact as a question, simply because he was curious. She knew what he'd been doing, it was only fair he know the same from her. Not that he was one to know social concepts and all, but he figured that would be about right. It made sense, after all.

After she had set the picture down Tayonis noticed that Rylee pulled out a water bottle. Lucky... Tayonis had been too busy talking and goofing off in the last city to even think about buying useful supplies like water. Too bad she had, especially on a day like this where it was so hot fire pokemon were probably dieing of heat stroke... Ok, maybe not fire pokemon, but you get the point.
She looked down to avoid making herself thirsty and busied herself with messing with the tie she had made on her shirt. She had forgotten she had even made it but it was the perfect way to divert your attention from something. "You never said what you were dong out here?" Tayonis looked up. "Oh yeah, I didn't. Did I?" She put her hands down in her lap and replied, "Well, I was going to go out today and train 'cause it was pleasantly warm this morning. But then, as the day went on it got hotter an' hotter so then me' n 'Sepia just decided to rest until it gets cooler... Hmm, I wonder if it will get cooler 'cause it would suck if it didn't, I'd be so mad." She remembered once, before she had become a trainer that she had encountered a day like this. It would have been unbearable if she hadn't had air conditioning... She wished she had one right now. It would be so nice to just sit in front of it... She made a barely audible sigh. Thinking about air conditioning wouldn't help her current situation right now, if anything it would make it worse. So, maybe a little more conversation would help keep her mind off of the weather.
Tayonis met Rylee's blue eyes and decided to ask a question. "So, are you a trainer or anything? Not t'be nosy or anything 'cause I'm one." Sepia who had decided a nap would nice right about now curled her tail around her body. Soon she was dozing fitfully.

He screwed the top back onto the bottle after taking a second sip, then tipped it sideways, holding it up against his forehead, knowing that if either of them were going to over heat he had a rather good chance of being the one who did. He was so used to below-freezing weather that even weather most would consider chilly was a pleasant temperature for him. This was just insane.
Breeder, though I'm kinda just starting.
He replied, closing his eyes against the drops of condensation that dripped from the side of the bottle. It didn't do much to help, though, and the drops just got stuck on his eyelashes. He scowled, taking the bottle away and rubbing the back of his hand lightly against his eyelids, wiping the water away.
He found himself wishing he'd asked for a totodile, at least he'd having a pokemon who could act as a hose and soak him down with water to cool him off. But, it was too late now, and, when it came down to it, he wouldn't trade Cynder for the world. Then he realized Tay didn't seem to have water; That had been a bad idea on her part, but still. That didn't change the facts. He held his bottle out.
You should drink something. You'll get dehydrated otherwise.

A breeder? She didn't see how anyone could want to do that. All the waiting would be enough to drive her up a wall. Then again, if it hadn't been for breeders she wouldn't have gotten her first pokemon and so far, only pokemon. Sepia was very unique and would always be special to her. She pet the evolution pokemon fondly on her back. Sepia in turn twitched her ear and smiled.
So, Rylee was a beginner breeder and she was a beginner trainer. Seems like we have a little bit in common. She thought as Rylee wiped drops of water from his eyelids. It was slightly amusing for a while until she thought about all that water… God, she was starting to get thirsty. The heat was making sweat beads pop up on her forehead and she wiped them away, irritably. Why did she have to have such a freaking short attention span! All she had to do was walk to one of the stores and buy some water! How simple was that. She had even thought about doing it but got distracted by something… she didn’t even remember what it was! It was that insignificant.
She was tempted to cross her arms and sit back against the tree to sulk when Rylee held out his water bottle. She was slightly surprised. He would share the precious liquid so freely with her? Tayonis reached her hand out and grabbed the bottle. ”Thanks, Rylee. She held it up to her mouth and drank some. She knew she was getting thirsty before, but not how thirsty. Within a couple of seconds she had drained the bottle.
Looking apologetic she said, ”Sorry, I didn’t know how thirsty I was. I promise I’ll buy you some more water, I have enough money to.” She really hadn’t tried to drink it all but it was good enough that she had done it almost without realizing it.

He smiled and shrugged, rather indifferent. She needed water, he had water. Why people had to complicate things like they did, he didn't really understand. He did murmur a soft 'your welcome', though, to be polite. He chuckled softly, though, as the water quickly disappeared.
No, don't worry about it. It was from a tap anyway.
He replied quickly, really not minding too much. He probably should, seeing as it was terribly hot and he should have water with him until he got back, but he figured he'd survive. He might be a bit sick by the end of it, but it wouldn't kill him. That was all that really mattered, at least in his book.

Tayonis sat the empty bottle on the ground beside her. Sepia would probably like to play with it after her nap. "That doesn't matter. It was still yours an I drank it all... but... if you're sure..." She still had an apologetic look on her face as she looked down and busied herself with messing with the tie she made in her shirt again. It was the hottest day of the year and he didn't seem to mind her drinking all of his water... Her mom would have most likely been highly upset over that. Unless she had told her specifically that it was alright to drink all of the water.
Tay crossed her legs in the classic "Indian Style" and decided to ask something. "So uh, you're travelin' by yourself, right? Would you like to go with me then? At least until the next city maybe longer if y'like." She was uncharacteristically shy when asking it and she still kept her light brown eyes on her shirt tie. She had never asked anyone to travel with her before, maybe that was the reason she was shy about it. She went on to explain, "It would be nice t'have someone to talk to when I'm on the road. Even though Sepia makes good company... She reached down and petted the top of her pokemon's head but quickly reached back up to the shirt tie and continued. "I don't have any people people t' talk to."
What impulse brought her on to ask that she didn't know but she stopped to think. It would be nice to have a person who she could socialize with. Then, she wouldn't get lonely while not in the cities and towns. It would be perfect but then, she could understand if he didn't want to... That would be fine as well. She wouldn't hold a grudge or anything... They had just met after all and she did drink all of his water. ((It's alright ^^ KitKat.))
