pride and j o y[/blockquote] ▂▂▂▂▂▂▂ So... This was the big day, huh? The big move? From advanced, big ol' Rustboro, Hoenn... To tiny, not in the slightest intimidating Pallet town, Kanto. She had decided to move here to get away from her angry family. And since she had the 'trainer' right now, why the hell not? She was a big girl. Being away from home would be the thrill of a lifetime. Ready as ever, too. Her hair was in a tight pony, only her fringe hanging down and framing her face, blue eyes poking on past the pink veil. Her glasses were fit nicely into her knapsack, along with a few other things. (Even she didn't leave without a first aid kit.)
Her feet, gladiator sandals and all, were tickled by the grass. Pallet Town was mostly grass, it seemed, kept feet-tickling length. She looked down at it with a bit of fondness. Already this place was almost alien. You had to venture out of Rustboro to feel grass, and that was rather dangerous without Pokemon. She could hear the Pidgey calls all around her. Swooping down and grabbing up little Caterpie. She almost felt bad for those near-defenseless Pokemon. Cute, but defenseless.
After a few more ticklish steps, the lab stood before her. Blue eyes found the door handle, and almost without hesitation, she grasped it. She had heard a good deal about Professor Oak, and hoped to Arceus she would actually get to meet him. Chances, while slim, were there. Hell, she would settle for an aid, but-- to meet the Professor Oak would be monumental. Almost something to write home about.
Adjusting her slung bag, she stepped into the air-conditioned room, taking a bit of breath. Jam was pleasantly surprised by the lack of white-clean lab. Instead it smelt grassy, earthy. She cleared her throat once, walking in, "Hello?" Simple, but always ear catching.

Inside the vast pokemon lab Professor Oak sat studying a book. It wasn't normally what you would think a professor would study... in fact it was a haiku book. It had various poems about pokemon, it was quite an interesting thing. If you were into that is... and believe you me, Oak was into it. As he flipped the pages unknowingly a girl walked into his lab. However, an aid who happened to be walking by did notice her. He walked over to her and decided to help her. "Hello. How may we help you?" He said politely. He was new and not very used to children coming into the lab for their first pokemon...
Still reading his book Oak thought he heard the sound of people talking. He closed the haiku book and turned around. So, there were people talking... He found a table to set the book down and promptly headed over. Clearing his throat so the aid knew he was there he spoke. "Thank-you, Mr. Polande, but I can take it from here." He said.
The young aid turned and looked rather embarrased. "Oh, sorry, Professor Oak. I'll be going now." Without waiting for the professor's reply the man disappeared into one of the many lab corridors. Now, Professor Oak looked at the girl. A friendly smile appeared on his face. "Hello, I'm Professor oak, as I'm sure you know. And who might you be, miss?" He said politely. He knew that she had to be a young aspiring trainer to even be at his office. It made him happy to know that someone was coming here to get their first pokemon. He had been doing this thing long enough to know she was.

pride and j o y[/blockquote] ▂▂▂▂▂▂▂ Jam wouldn't say that she was disappointed that an aid had found her first, oh no she was grateful all the same, but at the same time she felt as if she was missing out on an important part of getting her first Pokemon. Almost as if she was missing out on a 'coming of age' type deal. Whatever that was. Where she was from 'coming of age' meant dealing with your first severly-injured third-evolution Pokemon.
She looked over the aid happily, folding her hands in front of her, "I'm looking to get my first starter. I'm-- uh-- coming in from Hoenn. Can you give me my options?" She asked innocently, voice obviously trying to convey some bit of, oh what was the word, timidness. But she wasn't prepared for the next face to show itself.
Okay. So this was it. She was a Pokemon legend, hero, whatever, fanatic and he was standing right there.
She practically gushed. Jam took a few seconds to regain her composure and brushed a pink lock behind her ear, "Yeah, Professor Oak, uhm, I'm a huge fan. Of people like you. Hah-- blame my parent's. They got that into me at least." Oh and she was rambling. Stop. Rewind. "Oh, uh, I'm Ja-- Jericho. Jericho Joy," She was speaking to a legend, she had to be formal at least, even if it meant using her last name, "Like I said, I'm looking for a starter, but-- I don't what exactly I can get."

Oak almost laughed in embarrassment at the young girl’s obvious admiring of him. However, he couldn’t help a light blush. This girl er, Jericho was so happy to meet him. It was too much… He was just a simple pokemon professor… Well, very famous pokemon professor. Hmm, maybe that gave more room for her to be so enthralled. ”Well, it’s a pleasure to meet you Ms. Joy.” He said with a grin. ”You’ve come to the right place we have plenty of pokemon for you to choose from. Please follow me.” He turned walked toward one of the hallways in the lab.
It was quite a big place compared the some of the other pokemon professor’s but that was most likely because Oak was one of the more famous ones. As he was walking Oak started to ramble on about the different choices of pokemon. ”Oh yes, there are many pokemon for you to choose from. We have electric, fire, water, and any other types of pokemon that you could ever want.” They arrived at the end of the hall into a well lit room with a box of pokedexes, and pokeballs. And sitting on a shelf in the corner there were… six poke balls that held the starter pokemon. ”Oh dear, I must have forgot to restock the starter pokemon…” Oak walked forward and immediately knew which pokemon were contained. Two were a male and female totodile, another two male and female pikachus, one was a male shinx, and the last a female charmander.
Grabbing the poke balls he let them out in a flash of red light. The previously listed pokemon stood looking up at Jericho. They didn’t really know what was happening only that something was about to change… ”Now, Ms. Joy, these are the pokemon we currently have. Please choose which one you would like.” He said. pride and j o y[/blockquote] ▂▂▂▂▂▂▂ Jam laughed lightly at his comment, a huge smile planted on her face, "It's quite a pleasure indeed." She followed along, her brown running shoes plotting, and she took in everything and stored it. She wanted to remember this one, oh yeah. The time she got her first Pokemon... But-- what would it be?
She smiled slightly when he mentioned the lack of Pokeballs, "Oh, it's fine. I'm not very picky."
So long as it was somewhat cute! Her eyes found the fammiliar red flashes, and a grin found her lips. The Totodiles were both idle, standing doe-eyed up at Jam and the Professor. The Shinx was about in the same state, and the Charmander let out a little growl. Jam looked at the Pikachus. The male, she could tell by the tail, nudged the female slightly and the female slapped his hand and told him off in her own language. That was all she needed. "I like her," She smiled slightly, shifting weight on her hip, "She looks challenging." [/blockquote][/blockquote]

Oak looked at the girl and half-smiled. Somehow he knew she would go for the most challenging pokemon to train. Whether that was good or bad it would all depend on her ability to train pokemon. Although, challenging pokemon could much more fun to raise. ”Alright, the female pikachu it is.” Oak took the other pokeballs and returned the other pokemon to them. Then, he grabbed the pikachu’s pokeball and handed it to Jericho. ”She’s all yours now. Take good care of her… and be careful. Pikachus are feisty anyway but this will most definitely be more so than others.” Leaving the pikachu to her new trainer for a little while he headed over to the box with the pokedex and pokeballs. He grabbed 5 pokeballs and one of the pokedexes and headed back over to her.
He handed them off. ”Now, you’re all set. Unless you have any questions.” They were pretty much done but some trainers had questions to ask after they got all of their pokemon and items. However, most didn’t bother with questions and just bolted off on their adventures. Either way was fine with him, after all you could ask questions now and not have any later.
