Dilemma

Today, it seemed the weather was quite fair. Not too hot, not too cold. It was a sweet relief from a couple of days again when it had been almost unbearable. It had even seemed that the very grass had been sweating... ok, maybe that was over-exaggerating. But hey, it was alright to do that at times, right?
On Route 43, two teenagers were walking. Both had agreed not too long ago to travel together. One of them, a girl by the name of Tayonis had an eevee walking right beside her. It had a gold dot on its forehead and odd brown eyes that were shining with energy. At the moment with the sun seemed to make them a pretty gold color. The sun had fallen in the sky and it was almost sunset.
Tayonis glanced down at her pokemon. She could tell that the pokemon was full of energy... a lot of energy. That would need to be burned off, or else Sepia could get very very restless. How could such energy be burnt. Her eyes roved over to Rylee. He had pokemon, but he was a breeder. Not really a trainer like her. How could the boy even stand not having a battle once...
Then, an idea came to her. Why not get Rylee to battle? It would solve Sepia's problem and it would give Rylee some experience. But would he agree to the idea of battling? Only way to find out, right?
"Hey, Rylee. Have you ever had a pokemon battle before." She said sweetly. It wasn't a question, no. She knew he'd never had a battle before. In fact, her sentence had been so he could imply what she was going to say next... She gave him a few minutes for her words to sink in. Then, she began speaking again. "Would you like to have a pokemon battle?" Sepia's ears perked up and she trotted over to Rylee's side. Her large eyes looked up at him hopefully. Trying to sway his opinion more she rubbed her fluffy fur against his leg. Tayonis almost laughed at her pokemon's antics. She must have knew why she'd asked. However, she didn't know how Rylee's cyndaquil would react to battling. It probably wouldn't be used to it... but it would learn, hopefully. "So, whadda' 'ya say?" Sepia said. Her eyes looked up at the breeder and her tail wagged slowly from side-to-side.[/blockquote]

Rylee had been happily daydreaming on cloud nine since late last night when the soft cracking of the shell on an egg woke him up. A present from his dad from right before he left, he'd been waiting weeks for the pokemon to hatch and it had been a very pleasant surprise when it had hatched into a somewhat rare pokemon; Riolu.
He hardly heard Tay at first, but Sepia rubbing against his leg snapped him back to reality, and he glanced over in time to hear her ask if he wanted to battle. His steps slowed to a stop for a moment and he blinked in surprise. It wasn't that training pokemon wouldn't help with breeding, but... Why did she want to battle him? It wasn't as if he'd probably give her much of a fight, seeing as he'd never actually battled before.
I-I guess, sure.
It didn't take any thinking to know who he would choose Vale was still less than twenty four hours old. That was too young for Rylee to even think about using him. Cynder, on the other hand, had been restless lately anyway. Or, at least, restless for her. However, seeing as he was travelling with Tay, chances were they might battle again and it would be good to let Vale see how it was done, even if it wasn't Rylee who was winning. So, he quickly tapped the ball's button and let out the little pokemon.

Tay stopped and turned in time to see her friend blink in surprise. He was probably wondering why she had picked now to battle. Alas, if he only knew what Sepia was capable of getting into when she was restless. Eevees could get into a lot of trouble...
She could tell he was so surprised... it was kind of cute. "Don't worry, I know it's your first battle so I'll go easy on you." She said sincerely. Sepia trotted over to her trainer but not before giving Rylee a look that said, "yeah right". She faced her trainer with a very happy face and a fluffy wagging tail.
Looking around Tay tried to find a good spot to battle. There was a small field that would give plenty of room... but it had a lot of rocks in it. That wouldn't be good... the pokemon could be knocked into the ground and seriously hurt themselves. Her light brown eyes roved over to a small body of water. Hmm, they weren't water pokemon... but then the shore near the lake seemed to jump out at her. That would be perfect! She couldn't really see any rocks and it offered plenty of room.
She jumped up and down and pointed. "Lookit, lookit! That place is perfect! Don't you think we should battle over there?" Without waiting for an answer to trotted over to the shore of the water. She was going quite fast for someone wearing flip flops. However, in her haste she tripped and fell on the ground but as quickly as she fell she stood up. Brushing herself off she yelled, "I'm ok!" She continued at her previous speed, obviously not learning anything from her fall. It was obvious she was excited at the prospect of battling.
Once at the designated area she picked a god spot to stand and direct her pokemon. Sepia was used to the battling process by now and stood a little ways in front of Tayonis. She bounced up and down a couple of times before crouching to get rid of some excess excitement. However, she couldn't keep her tail from wagging like a happy little puppy. Well, she kind of was a happy little puppy. Tay smiled at Sep's obvious anticipation and looked at Rylee. "I'll let you make the first move, Ry. Since you're new to this and all. I don't want to make the battle unfair, y'know." ((Oh, it's not that bad :3))

Rylee followed rather meekly, staying at a walk and scooping Vale up into his arms, where the little pokemon would likely be safest. Despite the fact that he was getting rather nervous about this whole battling thing, he couldn't help but smile at her enthusiasm. It was a little catchy too, because by the time he reached the beach, figuring he should be doing what she was, he was pretty sure he was feeling adrenaline running through his veins.
Cynder, at least, knew what she was supposed to be doing, much more than he did, and she moved out in front of him, the flames on her back flaring up while she waited for Rylee to tell her what to do. And, of course, he had no idea what to tell the fire pokemon. At least he knew Cynder's moves; It was a good start.
U-umm....Tackle.
It was probably good he only had two choices to choose from, considering he was already unsure what to do to begin with. He'd watched a bunch of battles, but it was most definitely different to actually being a part of the battle.
Cynder, despite his hesitation, listened just fine. She definitely wasn't as nervous as Rylee; If he said to battle, she'd battle and that was all there was to it in her view. So, she took up a run and headed straight for the eevee.

Unlike her trainer Cynder seemed ready to go. On its back the flames sprouted out. A clear indication that the pokemon was ready. In Rylee's arms was his newest pokemon, Vale. The riolu was sure to gain some experience by watching the older pokemon battle. It made her wonder when the pokemon eggs she had would hatch... She couldn't wait! Especially not for one egg in particular. It was an odd green color...
"U-umm....Tackle."
Tackle, eh? Well there were three choices on how to react to that in her mind. All three flashed into her mind in only seconds. She could let the pokemon come on and hit Sepia... that was most certainly out. She wasn't about to let her pokemon be hit like that when it could be avoided by dodging.
She could tell Sepia to use Shadow Ball and catch the other pokemon full on. That could be devastating to the cyndaquil and she didn't want the other pokemon to be completely hurt all at once.
Now, the last thought would be perfect to try to do. She'd tell the eevee to use the same move. They'd meet full on and whichever pokemon was stronger they would prevail...
"Come on, Sep, show Cynder how to perform a real tackle." The evolution pokemon kicked off with her hind legs and got a good run going. She headed straight for the cyndaquil, her eyes narrowed. She met the other pokemon full on and she could feel their bodies hit on impact. She dug her paws into the ground so she wouldn't slide backwards. "Vee.." A low growl escaped her throat.
She could feel the pain where she hit like a far-off sensation. She was healthy right now so she just shook it off. However, she didn't exactly want any type of retaliation at the moment so she backed up a few inches.

Nerves disappeared in instant worry for his pokemon, and with it his uncertainty was rather diminished. He bit his lip as the two collided, not realizing he was squeezing Vale a bit tighter than before, but he quickly relaxed this grip. Cynder had managed to tuck her head in, avoiding being winded by the blow by a hair's breadth, though she did go skidding back a little.
Cyn, pull back and leer.
The little cyndaquil growled softly and did just that, gaining space between her and Sepia so that it would ultimately be easier to dodge if another attack came her way.

Tayonis felt a little satisfaction as the cyndaquil skidded back. It meant the counter tackle had worked a little. Although both had sustained some damage. Though, it was not much on either side.
Sepia let the other pokemon back away. She actually did back up herself a little more too... didn't want to be too close, now did we? However, it didn't help to stop leer. It was an attack to lower stats so she didn't really feel anything happen... However, Tayonis knew exactly what leer did. She was tempted to tell Sep to use tail whip but no, not now. She'd wait.
"Shadow Ball, Sepia." They had gained enough space from each other to give the cyndaquil time to dodge, if she was quick enough. The eevee opened her mouth and focused any angry and sad thoughts that she had ever had. Very rapidly a ball of black and purple energy started to form in front of her mouth. When it had gotten at a pretty decent size she shot it forward by simultaneously closing her mouth and kind of doing something like blowing.
The ball started straight towards the fire pokemon. Although, after the release Sepia's tail lowered as well as her ears. Doing that attack always left her vulnerable to her opponents moves. Why? It was simply because she hadn't exactly mastered it yet. Maybe when she got higher up in level it wouldn't do that to her... but now she was clearly open to attack. If Cynder had dodged the move she'd have a clear shot to the eevee...

Time seemed to slow for a moment. The energy ball just looked so dark, and so menacing that it sent a shiver up Rylee's spine. His eyes narrowed, quickly calculating and noticing a rather useful fact; Sepia was taller than Cyn, so it might be possible for the cyndaquil to duck under it. It was worth a shot, and it had a better chance of success than dodging to the side by this point.
Cyn, down!
The fire pokemon flattened to the ground, though the attack skimmed over top low enough to scrap over her back and do a little damage, though she managed to ignore it enough to scrabble back up and run forward into a tackle without orders. She knew it would probably take Rylee too long to react and the window of opportunity would be lost.
Rylee let out the breath he hadn't realized he'd been holding when Cynder scrambled up, and it took him a moment to realize what she was doing. When he noticed what she was doing, he simply nodded to himself, just ever so slightly, and waited to see what would happen.

From the view Tayonis thought the attack had hit its mark… Sepia on the other hand was a little bit skeptical though. And her skepticism was right… The attack had barely grazed the cyndaquil and now it was coming in for a tackle. She knew there was nothing to do but brace herself as best as she could. ”Try and dodge, Sep.” Tayonis called out. She knew that Cynder would get a full on hit and she also knew that her little pokemon didn’t have a chance of dodging. Not that she didn’t try… you could see her trying to move out of the way but she was still trying to get past her own slowness after using Shadow Ball.
She was hit straight in the front and she was thrown backwards. She landed squarely on her back with her tiny paws in the air. ”Eeee!” She squealed after hitting the ground. ”Sep? Are you alright?” Tayonis looked at her pokemon with worry in her eyes. It looked like she had hit awful hard…
In reply the pokemon rolled onto all four of her feet and yelled, ”Eevee!” Her eyes showed determination in them. She wasn’t about to go down without a fight. Tay smiled with relief and looked at Rylee. ”Not bad, Ry, have you been practicing in the sly?” She asked teasingly. It was true that he was putting up more of a fight than she thought he would. She thought that she’d have to go easy on him… apparently not though. If she wasn’t careful Sepia could easily loose this fight…
”Tail Whip, and then Tackle!” Tay yelled to her pokemon. The eevee twitched her ears then turned halfway to the side so her fluffy brown tail was more visible. She then proceeded to wag it cutely back and forth with a goofy grin on her face. Hopefully she lowered the other pokemon’s defense.
After a second or two of doing this she quickly took a run at Cynder. She tried getting a good speed going so it would be more effective. She going straight at the cyndaquil a low growl forming in her throat. ”Vee!” She hoped the fire pokemon wouldn’t be quick enough to dodge it.

Rylee found himself smiling slightly when the tackle hit home, though it was rather short lived. He much preferred the idea of training other ways, other than battling, though it did give him a certain sense of satisfaction that he'd lasted even just this long against an actual trainer. Of course, she was sort of a beginner trainer, certainly not the toughest out there, but that didn't make a difference to him.
However, when Cyn was just a bit too slow and Sepia ran right into her side, he flinched and whatever pride he'd had disappeared again. He bit his lower lip hard enough to draw blood, even as Cyn pulled herself back up, determined enough to keep going. A soft squeak from the young pokemon in his arms that he had forgotten about reminded him to loosen his grip, seeing as it had tightened again. He didn't want to back out, thinking for some reason Tay wouldn't want to be his friend anymore if he did. It was stupid, really, but he'd never actually had a friend before so this was a perfectly logical train of thought for him. At the same time, though, he wasn't sure he could particularly stand to see Cyn get hit anymore, which was pretty sure to happen considering he was the rookie of of the two of them.
His silence caused Cyn to pull back even farther than before and glance over her shoulder at Rylee, waiting, though glancing back at Sepia regularly. The cyndaquil noticed his change in attitude toward the whole battle, though, and before he had to say anything, she ran back over to him, letting it be her decision, hopping up to tap her pokeball with her nose and disappearing, effectively withdrawing herself from the battle and letting Sepia and Tay win.
Rylee let out a soft sigh of relief, promising to feed Cyn a few treats later, the ones she never usually got because they were bad for her. Satisfied the battle was over, he smiled sort of weakly, and placed Vale on the ground. The riolu promptly ran over to Sepia, poking the eevee gently, as if wondering if that was how he should be 'attacking'. It didn't take long for him to tire of this though and he wandered over to the shallows, amusing himself by discovering water.

Tay felt a slight bit of satisfaction as Sepia's move connected. The cyndaquil just wasn't fast enough to dodge out of the way. She was knocked down but just got right back up. Tay was impressed, that pokemon had a lot of spirit. Even though this was her first fight.
Now, it was Rylee's turn to make a move... none seemed to come however... He seemed to be stuck for something to say. Tay looked up at him in confusion. If he wasn't going to make a move then she'd wait for him... there was no way she'd cheat and go out of turn. That just wouldn't be right.
Sepia looked quizzically first at her trainer, then at the other. What was wrong? Weren't one of them going to say something? She got her answer when, as if on a silent command, Cynder ran back to her trainer and let herself into her pokeball. She had given up the fight... that meant they had won by default.
Instead of happiness and excitement, Tay felt only disappointment... She had wanted to win but not with Rylee... well, Cynder, giving up. Besides, this was the first battle she had had in a while and she had enjoyed it. Well, maybe that was what battles were for. As long as her pokemon didn't get seriously hurt they were fun. And she had had fun here so she didn't stay disappointed for long. Her attention was diverted momentarily by Vale "attacking" Sepia. She giggled at how cute that looked.
The evolution pokemon growled playfully at the young riolu and gently bumped his chest with her head like a kitten would. She watched him go to the water and decided it would be fun to teach him how to splash people with water. Sepia trotted off after him and began showing him the process of splashing by using her paws to splash a little bit of water on him.
Tayonis turned her head from the pokemon and walked over to her friend. "Good job with the battle. You're not too bad at it." She said with a charming smile. "I bet you would've beat me if Cynder hadn't left." Her voice was teasing as she gazed at him with her light brown eyes. Right then she remembered something she had in her backpack. "Oh! An' if you need one for Cynder I have an Oran Berry in my backpack you could use." Some pokemon liked them and others didn't. You never knew how each would react to the flavor. Sepia loved them but at the moment she seemed preoccupied with the newly hatched riolu.

Rylee smiled at the little riolu's antics, relaxing again rather quickly, and taking out the second egg he had, which he had found abandoned while taking pictures on his first day after getting Cynder. He cradled it in his arms, feeling for movement while carefully slipping his very heavy bag off his shoulder and letting it land gently on the ground, rolling his shoulders a bit.
He shrugged, not quite believing what she said about him winning. He'd been lucky and creative; That was all. However, her offer of an oran berry, which might make Cyn feel better after the battle. He tapped the ball to let the fire pokemon out again.
Thank you, but are you sure Sepia doesn't need it?
He asked, not the kind to simply take something as soon as it was offered. Even when they insisted, he always felt a little bad about it.

Dilemma

Tayonis rolled her eyes and took off her backpack. She unzipped it and reached on the inside to pull out an oran berry. She handed the berry to him not bothering to listen to any protests he may have had. "I have two more orans in my pack and besides..." She stopped and indicated her pokemon that was playing with his riolu with a tilt of her head. "Sep's a little busy at the moment." Now, Sepia was swimming around in the lake, busying herself with trying to stay afloat. Once or twice she sank under but she managed to swim quite nicely. There was no way that at the moment she would stop just to eat an oran. Besides, she was the type of pokemon who absolutely loved pechas... which is why Tayonis didn't have any at the moment.
Tay had noticed Rylee take something out of his bag. Upon, further examination it proved to be an egg... an egg that bore a striking resemblance to one that she had. One at least, the other egg was a green one with pink spots that looked rather odd to her. There was no telling what would come out of it. She actually couldn't wait to see.
Setting her back down next to her friend's she took a seat by the water. Far enough away so that she wouldn't get splashed but close enough so that she could get a good view of the water. It was quite pretty once you looked at it. Especially now that the sun was setting. The battle had taken up some of the day so now the sun was making quite a spectacular sight on the water. It was very pretty.
Absentmindedly, she reached for her backpack and pulled out both of her eggs. She held one in each hand and cradled them close to her heart. She wished that they would be close to hatching. They didn't even have to hatch, just move a little bit. If she closed her eyes she could imagine them moving already... wait... that wasn't her imagination. They were moving!
Tayonis snapped her eyes open and looked at the eggs. She should hold them even closer! No! She could hurt the newly hatched pokemon. She'd set them on the ground. She turned her attention to Rylee and said rather loudly, "Rylee! Rylee! Lookit! Lookit! The eggs!" She pointed frantically to get his attention. They weren't exactly hatching yet... but they were moving around a lot. Which meant they were most likely close to hatching.
At the water Sepia noticed her trainer's excitement and decided to investigate. So she leaped out of the water and shook her pelt off. Calling hastily to Vale to follow her (hoping the new pokemon would follow her) she went to her trainer. She was about to ask what was the problem when she noticed the eggs shaking and she sat there transfixed. She'd never seen a pokemon actually hatching before.

He took the berry, given little other choice, and fed it to Cynder, who took it gratefully and nibbled at it slowly. She deemed it tasty, and so savored it, appreciating how it also made her feel quite a bit more refreshed from the battle, much like a good, long rest would.
Rylee smiled at this, and patted Cyn on the head lightly before turning his attention to his egg, rubbing it in hopes to speed up the hatching process, though he doubted it would actually work.
He jumped, nearly dropping his egg. He jogged over, crouching next to her to look at the eggs, grin on his face. This was part of what he loved about the whole 'breeder' thing. It was just so wonderful.
They'll definitely hatch soon. Any minute, even, maybe.

Dilemma

Post by ♫~Tayonis~♪ on Apr 6, 2010 20:04:30 GMT -5
To Tayonis "any minute" would feel like forever. She didn't like just sitting and waiting. She liked things to come at a quicker time, not wait for long periods of time... it was annoying. As which proved the case here. Well, she wasn't so much annoyed as she was impatient. She wanted to meet her two newest partners.
As it turned out, she didn't have to wait long before the eggs started moving more. Then, the brown one started to loose part of its shell. She could see a furry brown pelt poking through the shell. A few seconds after the rest of the shell came away, revealing a male brown eevee. He took a look around his surroundings and decided his designated mother would be Sepia. They did after all look alike. He took a few hurried steps in her direction but tripped over his own paws and fell.
Tayonis couldn't help but giggle at the sight but she picked up the poor eevee and hugged him. "Aren't you just so cute!" She smiled as she hugged him. Now, what name would fit? She thought about Foxx since he looked like a little one... or maybe Sunset? Since it was sunset right now... No, the perfect just all of a sudden came to her. Tayonis' mother had a pokemon once, an Arcanine. He was a loyal and faithful pokemon. She had had him since she was a child. Being a child she had called him Ratchet... why? No one would ever know. However, that Arcanine had died right before wedding day. No one was really sure if she had ever gotten over the loss... some say she didn't. But whatever the case was, she had told Tayonis about Ratchet. Now, that story came back to her daughter and the name would seem perfect...
"Ratchet. I'm going to name you, Ratchet!" The newly named, Ratchet, looked up at Tayonis and smiled. Not really caring what he was called as long as he got taken care of. However, he struggled a little until Tay put him on the ground. Whereupon he walked right over to Sepia and snuggled into her fur. She didn't seem to mind much though, and eyed him with motherly affection.
Tayonis turned her attention back to the second egg. It was moving back and forth but showed no signs of breaking or hatching... What was taking this one so long? Wasn't it going to hatch today as well?
