Today was the big day. The day he got his first pokemon. The day he got his pokedex. The day he left Sinnoh, and his father, behind. All for the promise of the Johto region and an adventure that would probably get him injured, sick, stuck in hospitals, and possibly even killed.
What the hell had he been thinking?
He tried as hard as he could to push those thoughts aside. They would definitely not help matters. He was nervous enough as it was. He took a deep breath and placed his hand on the cool metal of the doorknob. His mind flickered back to all he’d heard about Professor Rowan, and he almost decided to run back home. The professor had a rather bad reputation, and Snow was hardly brave on the best of days. He gulped, and turned the handle taking a few hesitant steps into the lab, very near shaking. Oh, he was so not cut out for this!
H-hello?
His voice, a mere whisper, echoed through the lab, making him wince at how loud it was. His fingers fiddled nervously with the strap of his camera bag, which was rather large and only partially filled with camera equipment. About half of the bag was dedicated to spare clothes, and a few other things. He couldn’t stuff it full of too much. He was nearly tipping over sideways as it was, with how heavy the darn thing was. But, he’d insisted on bring his camera with him, even though he was sure his dad would have taken good care of it. He took a few more steps into the lab, closing the door quietly behind him.
U-hm. Is anyone here? It’s Rylee, from Snowpoint. M-my dad called ahead.

Inside the pokemon lab Professor Rowan was doing research on his computer. He was basically just widdling time away until a new boy came for his pokemon. The boy's father had called previously and told the professor that he should be on his way soon.
A few minutes passed and he heard footsteps in the lab. Then, a hesitant voice.
"H-hello?"
Ah, there he was now. The Pokemon Professor stood and slowly made his way over to the boy.
"U-hm. Is anyone here? It’s Rylee, from Snowpoint. M-my dad called ahead.
No sooner had he said that Professor Rowan arrived in front of him. "Yes, m'boy, I'm here. And it's quite good your father did call ahead here or else I wouldn't have been prepared to meet you." The Professor extended a hand forward for Rylee to shake. "I'm sure you already know me but in case you don't I am Professor Rowan. Now without further ado, let's go take you to the pokemon." The Professor turned and made his way to the back of the lab where a shelf held the pokemon.
He indicated the shelf with the pokeballs and began speaking. "Now, which pokemon would you like, m'boy? I'm sure you have some type of idea."

Rylee quickly slipped his hand forward and shook the professor's hand, all the while his eyes darted around a bit still, rather unsure about this whole ordeal all of a sudden. When it was imaginary, it was exciting, but now that it was real... Well, it was a hell of a lot scarier.
However, at the mention of the pokemon, his eyes instantly brightened with anticipation. He quickly followed Rowan, attention now focused raptly on what was happening. In his excitement, his camera bag swung around in front of his legs, very nearly tripping him before he swung the bag out of the way, a rather practiced move seeing as this had happened more often than he cared to admit.
When it came to the question of which pokemon, of course, he paused. He'd narrowed it down to two on the way here from Snowpoint, but he was still stuck between them. He bit his lip for a moment in thought before finally deciding on the one that would probably seem the strangest choice for him, being a snow-loving being.
A cyndaquil, please, sir.
He shifted his weight a bit, trying to even out the camera bag's weight a bit, but hardly managing it at all. That was one bad thing about the single-strap bags. Backpacks were almost better, at least for that. But, it wouldn't have the rather nice divisions for camera use that this one did.

"A cyndaquil, please, sir."
Rowan looked at the pokeballs on the shelf and grabbed one on the top towards the end. It contained a female cyndaquil. It was the only one he had at the moment. He handed the boy the pokeball. "Here, you are. I hope you don't mind a female. She's the only one we have right now."
He noticed with slight amusement the bulky pack the boy carried. He wished he had something that could lighten the boy's load. But alas, he didn't. The Professor but both his hands behind his back and gave the boy a once-over. He looked as if he would be good to his new pokemon. Hopefully, his thoughts were right and he would be. "Make sure you take good care of that cyndaquil. Y'hear?" He said with a stern look. "I've known many who haven't treated their pokemon good."

Thank you!
He took the pokeball carefully, holding it for a moment with a small smile spreading across his face, then slipping it gently into his pocket, with his hand as a cushion. It would seem to be his lucky day, seeing as he'd actually wanted a female to begin with.
He nodded vigorously at the mention of treating the cyndaquil well. Of course he would! Pokemon were, really, his only friends. He'd been playing with wild pokemon since he was a young boy, and that wasn't about to change now that the pokemon wasn't wild.
Of course sir! Always.

Professor Rowan gave a half smile. "Well, I'm glad of that. One less person to worry about abusing pokemon." The Professor walked to a window in his lab and looked outside absentmindedly before speaking again. "Now, m'boy, I believe you should get started on your way although it would be wise of you to go buy potions and pokeballs in case you want to catch any other pokemon. You're going to have a lot of adventures." He nodded to himself and turned back around to Rylee.
Rowan walked over to his research computer and put a hand on the chair that was in front of it. "Now, unless you have any questions, I bid you adieu."
